The Case Hackathon is a practice-oriented intellectual competition aimed at developing students’ practical skills in risk management, financial analysis, Data Science, and Machine Learning. The Hackathon is based on solving a real-world applied case reflecting challenges faced by modern financial organizations.
The Event is organized by KBTU with the support of representatives from KPMG’s FRM Department.
These Regulations establish the goals and objectives of the Case Hackathon in Risk Management, its format, conditions, procedures, and participant requirements. The Event is conducted in a team format and aims to provide students with practical understanding of credit risk management processes, develop skills in financial and non-financial data analysis, apply Data Science and Machine Learning tools, get acquainted with KPMG FRM Department practices and tasks, identify motivated and promising students for future professional collaboration, master approaches to forecasting clients’ Probability of Default (PD), and gain experience in solving real analytical tasks of financial organizations.
Participation is open to 3rd- and 4th-year students of higher education institutions in Almaty in the fields of Data Science, Data Analytics, Information Technology, Finance, Mathematics, and related disciplines; participation is in teams of up to three members. If a participant registers individually, the organizers reserve the right to form teams from individual participants.
Participants are provided with a case simulating a real financial organization’s task in credit risk management, which involves developing an approach to predicting clients’ Probability of Default (PD) based on the dataset provided by the organizers.
Solutions are evaluated based on the quality of the analytical approach and financial logic, correctness of Data Science and Machine Learning methods, justification of decisions and depth of result interpretation, clarity, structure and visibility of the presentation, and practical applicability of the proposed solution. Evaluation is carried out by a jury consisting of representatives of KPMG’s FRM Department.
The Case Hackathon is conducted in two stages — a preliminary online round and a final offline round.
